A Special Pit Stop

As most of our social media followers know,  we got to go to Iowa I 80 (the world’s largest truck stop). Until now, I had only read a little about the place but hoped one day our travels would allow us to see it for ourselves. We just happened to be traveling on I 80 through Iowa on our way to Pennsylvania so we took James’ 30 minute lunch break and extended it a little to check it out.

This TA is equipped with 900 tractor trailer spaces! There is a diesel fuel island like ever other truck stop houses as well as a service center, truck wash and dog wash! There is a large building with 3 floors where truckers can shower and relax in a small theater to watch tv. The middle floor has an expansive gift shop and 8 different options for food. The bottom floor is the true trucker’s paradise;  an array of accessories to truck out any truck as well as two tractors for visitors to get up close and personal with.

There is a very large truck museum but it was closed on this particular day.
As we walked back to the truck, the sun was setting on Iowa and we had a few hours to make up on the road.

Over all, it is a very neat place and I’m sure I would have enjoyed it more had we been able to see more trucks (in the museum). But chances are we will be passing this way again.
