One of the hardest things about waking up in the truck with an empty trailer (and no pre trip assignment) is when you call into the yard to see when they want you back. We had just done our 10 hours off and James called at 10:00 am to let them know he was ready to return, but they told him they didn’t want him back until 5pm (the yard is 3.5 hours away).
So we made some lunch and played on our phones while we waited to head back up to the yard. In a way, I am glad we had to wait, because I got some amazing pictures of the mountains and the clouds heavy with snowfall in the distance.
I commented to my husband that all I want for my upcoming 35th birthday was to be in the midst of a snowfall (nothing too heavy since we’d probably have to drive in it). Moments later he decided to stop at a rest stop to use the facilities and there was snow!
Or course it was the only day I had decided to wear flats since getting on the truck! But I’m hopeful we will have more snowfall in the next couple of weeks and maybe a littke extra time to go play in it.
And then we were in Nevada, greeted by this beautiful sunset! As soon as James dropped his empty trailer, his dispatch manager gave him his next load schedule; a pull ahead down toward Napa, Vallejo and Vacaville (5 stops total).
